Basic Communication Skills

1^st Semester, SY 2011 – 2012

Course Objectives:

1. Construct grammatically correct sentences
2. Use transition words and phrases in written and oral communication
3. Engage in meaningful conversation using English
4. Analyze texts using the BDA reading process
5. Write grammatically correct paragraphs

Prelims

1. Greetings and giving personal information
2. Filling out forms with correct and necessary information
3. Talking about oneself using simple tenses
4. Using quantifiers in simple conversation
5. Grammar Points:  nouns, pronouns, simple tenses

Midterms

1. Asking for/giving information using prepositions
2. Using Wh- questions
3. Using transitions words and phrases in narrating events, describing people/places/things, comparing and contrasting items, classifying objects
4. Grammar points:  adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions

Prefinals

1. Sentence fragment vs complete sentence
2. Basic sentence patterns
3. Types of sentences according to structure

Finals

1. Reading for different purposes:
1. The reading process
2. Using visual organizers
2. Using Context clues
3. Using the dictionary
